Independent Hours Reflection

• What have I learned about myself through this experience?
Through this experience what I've learned that babysitting someone under 6 is no joke and I'll never do it again. Also that when I'm in tough situation I don't really seem to break down at all. I stay mentally tough and continue on without hurting somebody.

. What more needs to be done?
There is nothing really more to be done except that the child be put into a cage and thrown into the jungle but other than that I guess I can work a little more on keeping my composure.

• How will service learning change your future behaviors/attitudes/and career?
Service learning really gave me a closer look at myself and my career. I know now when I get older I won't look into a career dealing with young children. Also that children could really be the devil and in the future I'll think twice before I put myself in the situation where I'm responsible anyone 10yrs or more younger than me.

Service Learning Planning-final week

For this upcoming week we'll talk about the food drive that we would be starting this week. Were going to continue making our posters and boxes where the foods would be stored to give to to the homeless. Afterwards we should be getting back to the topic of helping out at a homeless shelter. Whether its helping to clean up or serve food.

That is what were going to cover in this weeks meeting on Thursday.

To sum up the bulk of the work is done but we still have a little more work to get done and with the way our group is working we'll be done in no time at all.

Lennie- Motif

Lennie is a tall, mentally challenged, and very strong man. Now Lennie being that he has a mental disability he has to sort take up after another man named George whom is like a brother and father to him being that he takes care of him. But Lennie always seems to find himself in crazy circumstances by doing foolish things that lands him in a world of trouble.

Lennie had a puppy that he just couldn’t put down. He took this puppy everywhere he went even though George told him not to take him from his mother because of its young age. He didn’t listen to George the first couple times and try to take the puppy to his bedroom. So to get Lennie to listen to him and behave George threatened to not let Lennie fulfill his dream in tending the rabbits. Later one day Lennie was in the shaft playing with the puppy and once again his strong hands proved fatal, killing the puppy leaving Lennie to say I didn’t mean to, I did a bad bad thing.

Throughout the stay at the ranch Lennie crushed a man’s hand, killed a puppy, and you would think that this would be all, no. Lennie had to go out with a bang, right like always. Later one afternoon during a horse shoe tournament outside Lennie was inside the shaft mourning the death of his puppy. Soon afterwards Curley’s wife came inside, but let me get straight to the point. She let him pet her soft hear, he wouldn’t let go, she screamed, and he snapped her neck killing her. This infuriated Curley and the men on the ranch and the search was on to kill Lennie who already left on foot to the hideout him and George had. Soon after George found Lennie before the other men could and shot him in the head because he didn’t want another man to kill his friend.

In conclusion Lennie was just a troublemaker everywhere he went even though he tried to keep the peace, but it wasn’t working for him, he just was to strong for his own good. Eventually someone was going to kill him whether it was George or another man so it was for the best when Lennie was shot and murdered, he would’ve understood.

Service Learning Reflection

In the service learning meeting this past week we put aside the homeless shelters and hygene packets and got on the topic of advertisement. We spent the whole class period making posters to hang up around the school about the upcoming food drive were having next week. I wrapped a couple boxes and decorated them and also made a poster like another five of us did. Afterwards we cleaned up the big mess that we/ve made and headed on our way.
To conclude the service learning meeting was a huge sucess and we got a whole lot of work done and I think the upcoming food drive will go pretty well for our groupand I'm looking forward to the closing weeks of our project.

Of Mice and Men- Theme

There were many themes in Mice and Men but I've decided to talk about one that was most interesting to me, brotherhood. Now in Of Mice and Men brotherhood is sort of the main theme between the men on the farm and especially George and Lennie. Being that they are on a farm brotherhood would be a key factor because on a farm what you have to do is work together to get the job done. But in the case of George and Lennie they are working togehter to live a dream in living on their own acres of land where Lennie gets to tend the rabbits.

George and Lennie has been together for quite sometime now being that Lennie's aunt died. George has sort of been a big brother to Lennie taking him from town to town, finding them jobs, all in the pursuit of their dream. This is the perfect example of brotherhood. Being that one man takes the responsibility of another man and puts the load on their shoulders while trying to fulfill a dream. Well I don't know about you but I don't think brotherhood can get any better than this, this is the best of the best. I know I wouldn't do this in a million years but George sure did thats why him and Lennie is my theme for brotherhood.

To sum up even though Lennie had a mental disability George stilled put up with him through all his troubles and stayed with him when he could've kicked him to the curb. George and Lennie had a nice brotherhood even though it had to be cut short with George shooting Lennie they had a nice life and maybe George still would live the dream not just for himself but also for Lennie.

Service Learning Reflection

In last weeks service learning meeting we had talked about ideas that we had for what we could do that day. We wanted to go on another walking trip but the rain prevented that so we stayed and conversed amongst ourselves about ways in helping the homeless. We also made a couple phone calls to local homeless shelters in which we could go down and help out but of course no one answered so we left messages.
To conclude last week meeting we got somewhat of our work done but still have a lot to do so we got stay focus and do more in the up coming weeks.

Service Learning planning

For the up coming weeks of service learning our group has a few ideas in which we could do for our project. Our first main objective is money and thinking of ways to raise money to get the things that we need to help the homeless. But other than that we have ideas in making hygiene packets, going to shelters and help serve food, and also help clean up around the shelter. In planning this our group has been searching for homeless shelters online, making calls to different shelters, and gone on a couple walking trips around the city searching for nearby homeless people in need.
To sum up these up coming weeks in planning won't be easy and we have a lot of work to do but we'll find a way to get our work done just like we've been doing.

Lennie Symbol

Lennie is a tall, mentally challenged, and very strong man, so strong that he crushed every bone in man’s hand with one hand. But being so strong is sort of a disability to him because of his strong hands. Now Lennie loves to pet soft things but being that he is so strong mostly everything he pets he kills.

Lennie had a puppy that he just couldn’t put down. He took this puppy everywhere he went even though George told him not to take him from his mother because of its young age. He didn’t listen to George the first couple times and try to take the puppy to his bedroom. Service Learning Reflection

For our Service Learning project meeting yesterday we went on another walking trip around the block. The purpose for this was to found out how many homeless people we would see if we were to walk around the block one time. At the end of this trip we saw three homeless people. Afterwards we came back to school and talked about what we saw and how did we feel about the things we had seen. In conclusion our meeting was once again a success and this was another fun experience for our grop.

Service Learning Meeting

The service learning meeting last week our group went on a walking trip. We went to this place where it had a significant amount of money exhibits. This place that we went to taught me a lot about money and how it came to be what it is today. The exhibits at this location talked about stock markets, the presidents on the dollar bills, and the currency value of these dollar bills. This trip was a fun trip for our group and everyone liked the fact that we didn't just sit in a circle and talk but took a step outside the box and went on a adventure.

Empire of the Sun{Grade this essay}

The movie Empire of the Sun was a movie about how the Japanese invaded China and took over. In this movie features a little boy named Jamie. Jamie is British young man who lives in wealth with his mom and dad. Being that he and his family is rich he kind of is a brat who thinks hes better and above everyone else.

Jamie is different from other kids his age. Kids his age are usually interested in toys, TV, and more toys. But not Jamie he is more interested in planes than anything else. He knows any and all planes from the smallest to the biggest. But other than planes there something else Jamie likes to do as a hobby. Boss other people around and get his way. Typical for a young boy who has rich parents. But one day that changed as they Japanese came and invaded their city and in the commotion he got separated from his mother and father leaving him to take care of himself.

Since the lost of his mother and father Jamie matured in age and as a person. Being that he had to take care of himself with little help from other people. He got a look at life from the perspective of a person in struggle and not from a person who got anything they want when they want. He turned into a boy who did for himself by hustling, grinding for what they needed instead of just getting it handed to them. The war turned this little boy brat into a man.

In conclusion Jamie in the beginning was a boy who couldn't do without his mommy and daddy but turned into a man who can. He actually forgot even what his mother looked like by the end of the war. He just remembered that she had dark black colored hair. When he goes back to his regular life he wouldn't be going back as the same little immature boy but he'll be going back as a mature young man.

Reflection on Service Learning meeting

Last week meeting on Friday we watched a video on homelessness. The video featured homeless people who talked about how they got to where they are. A lot of them were laid off from their jobs and couldn't pay their bills so they were kicked out of their homes. We also talked about how we would raise money to buy hygiene packets. Also what to buy to put inside them. Then we talked about the locations where we can go to help the homeless. We talked about going to shelters we can go to and how we can help. Whether its cleaning up or help serve food.
Some areas of improvement is the talking. Throughout the meetings too many people try to talk at once so its hard to hear everyone ideas and this causes confusion.
In conclusion the meeting was a success and we got a lot done and were one step closer in completing our project.

Service Learning Reflection

Last weeks service learning meeting was a success. We talked about where we would go to help the homeless such as homeless shelters, what streets locations, and different parts of the city. We also talked about what we would give to the homeless and how we would gather things together whether through give aways or food drives. We also got to know each other as people we played games to learn about one another which is key in trying to do a group project because communication is key between one another or the projet wont be a success. In conclusion the meeting last was fun and I'm looking forward to the next one.

News Paper Article

"Who Is Bigger Thomas"

Bigger Thomas is a Twenty year old African American male who lives in poverty in the rough streets of Chicago. He lived with his mother, younger sister, and brother in a small one room, rat infested apartment. Bigger Thomas never graduated from high school leaving him to just hope for a way out of poverty. He has a few friends that he hang out with. Their most popular hangout spots are the movies and the pool hall. Since he doesn't have a job majority of his time is spent hanging out with friends and his girlfriend.

One faithful day Bigger Thomas' life took a turn for the better when he went in for a job interview to be a driver for a rich family the Daltons. At first Bigger was hesitating to go in for the interview because of the Dalton's race "white" and he didn't know what they'll think of him or if they'll accept him since he was black. But eventually he finally built up enough courage to go inside. Once inside he met with Mr.Dalton who thought that Bigger was the right person for the job so he gave him the job with the salary of 20$ a week. Also he got his own room and was fed all for just driving a car, it was the life for Bigger.

Now that Bigger had the job it was time for his first assignment. He had to give Mary the daughter of Mr and Mrs. Dalton a ride to an event at her University. But Mary later told Bigger that she is not going to the University and for him to take her to 16 Lake Street where she'll meet up with one of her male friends. After reaching their destination they picked up a guy named Jen then headed out to go eat at one of Bigger's hotspots. Bigger was very hesitant to go inside at first because he didn't want people he know to see him with white people. But after all the nagging of Mary and Jen he finally went inside. They ate and had a few drinks, but had a few too many where Mary and Jen became drunk. Afterwards Bigger dropped off Jen and headed back to the house. There they met Mary's mother and since Bigger didn't want their mom to find out that Mary was drunk and that he didn't take her to the event he killed Mary and threw her into the furnace.

Now Bigger is in jail for life with no parol for the murder of Mary Dalton and he lost everything. His job, family, girlfriend, and friends maybe he should've thought twice before killing Mary over something foolish.

Who is Bigger Thomas? This is Bigger Thomas a murderer.

Blooms Taxonomy

1. What happened after Bigger killed the rat?
Once Bigger killed the rat he began to tease his sister Vera with it scaring her causing her to faint and his mom screaming at him out of anger. Afterwards telling him she wonder why she borned him.

2. Who was the key character in Native Son
Bigger Thomas was the key character in the book Native Son

3. What questions would you ask Mrs. Thomas in you met her in person?
I would ask Mrs. Thomas how does it feel to meet someone new but not see their face since she is blind

4. Which events could've happened if the boys went through with the robbery?
If the boys went through with the robbey they could,ve gotten away with it because the cops weren't nearby and it would've been quick and easy job. Also the boys would not doubt each other anymore.

5.Why don't you devise your own way to deal with Mary being drunk?
If I were in Bigger shoes and I knew Mary was drunk and didn't want her mom to find out I wouldn't have killed her. I would've just put her in her room and lock the door so no one else can come in so by the morning when people see her she'll be sober but with a hang over. It was not worth her losing her life just because Bigger wanted to hide the fact she was drunk. Whats the worst her mother could've done?

6. Do you think Bigger getting a job is a good or bad thing?
I think this is a good thing because now he'll be able to help provide for himself and his family. Not only that but he'll finally feel like he's doing something with his life.

Before Bigger used to just hang out with friends, smoke, eat, and sleep. But now that he has a job he can now be a able to take care of himself and his family and help to get them out of that rat infested apartment they live in.

In conclusion Bigger getting a job is a life changing thing for him, I mean he doesn't have the best job in the world but it is better than what he had before which is no job at all. Now Bigger can finally be a man take responsibility of his own actions all because he has a job.

Service Learning

This year for Service Learning a possible topic choice for me would Food-Science.

There are different catagories under this topic. The main idea of this topic is food and nutrition. Like how many should you have in a day, the servings of fruit and vegetable you should have in a day, and the distribution of food.

We can give food to people who are in need like the homeless and food organizations around the nation who are in need of assistance. We can go to homeless shelters and give them a hand in preparing meals. We can help cut vegetables, make bread, and set tables.

This is what I think would be a good idea for service learning because this would be a good way to give back to the community and make us feel good about ourselves.

Reflection on N.H.D

This year for my N.H.D project I did a documentary on Race Riots Nationwide in the US. For the most part it went pretty smoothly for my group and I. To complete our project we got different images and videos of race riots that occurred in different cities like Detroit and Tulsa. Afterwards we put everything together on I-Movie, put the images and videos in order and did our voice overs.
Some challenges for our project were finding images and videos and where to place them in our documentary. Then aligning up the images and videos along with our voice overs. Eventually in the end after all the retakes our documentary was finished.
N.H.D again this year was a long but good experience especially since I worked with good partners who did their work and took responsibility. N.H.D was fun experience again but I'm glad that it is finally over. For next year what I would do differently is try to have a little more fun with our documentary, get a little more creative and stride more to get first place.

Science Fair Topic

The hypothesis for this was that after someone have something to eat their heartrate will increase. After the testing the results shows that my hypothesis was correct. Once a person had something to eat their heartrate did increase.

Topic For NHD

My topic for NHD is race riots in Philadelphia in August 1834. For the presentation of my project I'll be doing a documentary to tell the story of the race riots.
